Choosing a Moroccan pendant light starts with your space: where the lantern will hang, how much room it has, and the atmosphere you want to create. Glass colour, brass finish and lantern proportions all influence the result.
This guide explains what to check before choosing a Moroccan brass and glass pendant for your home.
Start with the room and placement
In an entryway, a pendant lantern can create a welcoming focal point. Check how it relates to the entrance door, nearby furniture and the ceiling height.
Above a dining table, consider the lantern’s width in relation to the table and the view between people seated opposite each other.
For a hallway or stairwell, check clearance carefully. Doors must open freely, and the lantern should not obstruct people using the space. A qualified installer can help determine a suitable hanging position and ceiling support.
Understand body height and total hanging height
Lantern body height is different from total hanging height.
On our pendant listings, body height refers to the lantern itself, excluding the hanging chain and ceiling canopy. The installed drop also includes the suspension components.
Before ordering, check:
- Lantern body height
- Lantern width
- Available ceiling height
- Chain length and total installed drop
- Space needed around doors, furniture and walkways
A useful way to judge scale is to mark the proposed lantern dimensions with paper or cardboard before choosing a size. For a stairwell, view the proposed position from both the upper and lower levels.
Choose the glass for the effect you want
Clear glass keeps the lantern visually open and allows the bulb to remain visible. The bulb’s shape and brightness become part of the overall appearance.
White or frosted glass softens the appearance of the light source. With a warm bulb, white glass can look cream or golden when illuminated.
Patterned glass adds texture and decorative interest, including when the light is switched off.
Coloured glass introduces a stronger accent. Blue, green, amber or red panels can connect the pendant with colours already present in your room.
Always consider both illuminated and unlit views. Daylight and bulb colour can change how the glass appears.
Match the brass finish to your interior
A golden brass frame pairs naturally with warm wood, neutral walls and other brass details.
Black brass creates a stronger outline around the glass and works well when you want to emphasise the lantern’s geometry.
Other finish colours can bring a different character to the same design. Check the material and finish stated on the individual product page, as finish colour alone does not identify the underlying material.
Decide between geometric and ornate designs
Geometric lanterns use straight lines, faceted glass panels and stepped shapes. They can suit contemporary interiors as well as Moroccan and Mediterranean spaces.
Ornate lanterns feature pierced domes, latticework and decorative arches. They work well when you want the pendant itself to be a prominent decorative feature.
Choose a design that complements the surrounding room. Consider nearby mirrors, patterned rugs and furniture so that the pendant has enough visual space.
Check the electrical details
Before purchasing, confirm the socket type, voltage, included components and installation requirements on the product page.
Our brass and glass pendant listings specify the bulb holder and supplied hanging components. Bulbs are sold separately unless the listing states otherwise.
Choose a bulb compatible with your local voltage and the supplied socket. If you want dimming, confirm compatibility between the bulb, dimmer and fixture. Use a qualified electrician for installation.
Allow for handmade variation
Handcrafted lanterns can vary slightly in dimensions and finishing. Read the measurements and variation notes on the product page before ordering.
