Choosing the right pendant light for your kitchen island means checking more than one measurement. The fixture’s height, its maximum width, and its total hanging drop all affect how it fits your space.
For handmade Moroccan glass pendant lights, understanding these dimensions will help you compare sizes and plan a balanced arrangement.
What Does the Listed Pendant Size Mean?
In our glass pendant light collection, the selected size refers to the height of the pendant body itself, excluding the chain and cord.
For example, choosing a 40 cm (15.7-inch) pendant means the light fixture’s body is approximately 40 cm tall. It does not mean the fixture is 40 cm wide.
Check these measurements before ordering:
-
Fixture height: The height of the pendant body, without the chain or cord.
-
Maximum width: The widest part of the fixture, which helps determine spacing.
-
Total hanging drop: The full distance from the ceiling to the bottom of the pendant, including its suspension.
For round designs, diameter may also be specified. Always check which dimension the product’s size options describe.
Please allow approximately 1–2 cm variation due to the handmade process.
Measure Your Kitchen Island
Start by measuring your island’s length and width. Then measure the distance from the countertop to the ceiling.
The island’s length helps you plan the number of pendants and their spacing. Its width helps you judge whether the shades will sit comfortably over the surface.
The countertop-to-ceiling measurement shows how much vertical space is available for both the pendant body and its suspension.
Choose a Fixture Height That Fits Your Ceiling
A taller pendant body takes up more vertical space. Before choosing a size, allow room for the fixture, the canopy and suspension, and a comfortable gap above the countertop.
Use this calculation:
Available suspension space = countertop-to-ceiling distance − desired countertop clearance − fixture height
For example:
| Measurement | Illustrative example |
|---|---|
| Countertop to ceiling | 180 cm / 70.9 inches |
| Countertop to bottom of pendant | 90 cm / 35.4 inches |
| Pendant body height | 40 cm / 15.7 inches |
| Remaining space for canopy and suspension | 50 cm / 19.7 inches |
This is a planning example, not an installation specification. Confirm the chosen model’s minimum hanging drop and whether its suspension can be adjusted to your required length before ordering.
How High Should the Pendant Hang?
A common starting point is approximately 76–91 cm (30–36 inches) from the countertop to the bottom of the pendant.
Measure to the lowest part of the light fixture—not to the bulb, ceiling canopy, or top of the shade.
Check the proposed position while both sitting and standing. The pendant should leave comfortable views across the kitchen. Ask your electrician to confirm the final hanging height and installation requirements.
How Many Pendants Will Fit?
The right number depends on your island’s length and the actual width of your chosen design.
Do not use the listed fixture height to calculate horizontal spacing. A 40 cm-tall lantern is not necessarily 40 cm wide, and different designs with the same height may have different widths.
Two wider pendants or three narrower ones may both be possible, depending on the available space. Plan the whole arrangement before deciding.
Plan the Space Between Shades
Measure the clear gap between the widest edges of neighboring fixtures.
For small pendants, approximately 30–60 cm (12–24 inches) between shade edges is a useful starting range. Larger designs may need more space.
Leave room at both ends of the island as well. Check that the arrangement is centered over the surface and that the shades do not feel crowded.
If the maximum width is not shown on the product page, contact us with the model and height option you are considering before planning your ceiling positions.
Preview the Size Before Ordering
Use cardboard to make a simple outline matching the fixture’s height and maximum width. Hold it safely at the proposed position to judge the scale.
Check whether the pendant blocks views, feels too tall for the ceiling, or sits too close to nearby cabinets. This is especially helpful when comparing two height options.
Consider the Light as Well as the Size
Shade design, glass color, and bulb choice affect how light reaches your countertop.
Ask for illuminated product photos and check the recommended bulb specifications. If you use the island for food preparation, consider whether additional task lighting is needed alongside the decorative pendants.
